Romania: The 122 Kilometer Long Sibiu-Pitești Highway to be Completed by 2028

Section (Sibiu-Boița): This 13.7 kilometer section was completed at the end of 2022. The construction and design contract for this section was signed on April 14, 2019, between CNAIR and Porr Construct SRL, valued at 612.6 million Lei excluding VAT. Work began in spring 2020 and was completed on December 15, 2022.

Section (Boița-Cornetu): This 31.33 kilometer section is currently in the planning phase and is expected to be completed by 2028. The contract value is 4.2 billion Lei excluding VAT.

Section (Cornetu – Tigveni): Design work is currently underway for this 37.4 kilometer section, which is supposed to be completed by 2027. The cost for this section is 5.3 billion Lei excluding VAT.

Section (Tigveni-Curtea de Argeș): Work on this 9.86 kilometer section has reached a progress rate of 24.68% this week. The contract value is 1.6 billion Lei excluding VAT, and completion is planned for autumn 2027.

Section (Curtea de Argeș-Pitești): Work continues on this 30.35 kilometer section, and the physical progress is currently at 62.86%. “The asphalt mixture (base layer) has been laid in this section to 37.09%”, according to CNAIR officials, who state that this section must be completed by August 31, 2025 at the latest.

85% of this project is funded by non-repayable European funds. The Sibiu-Pitești Highway will establish a crucial link between the Muntenia and Transylvania regions in Romania and is scheduled to open to traffic four years and five months later, in September 2028.
